If you’re here, you’re probably feeling overwhelmed — maybe even a little lost — and wondering if mediation can really help you through this. I get it. Divorce is one of the hardest things a family can go through, and it’s natural to feel unsure about what comes next.
The good news? Mediation really does work — and it works beautifully when both people are ready to put their family’s future above the fight.
Let me walk you through what mediation actually looks like, step by step, so you can breathe a little easier knowing what to expect.
What Is Divorce Mediation, Exactly?
Mediation is a process where I — as your neutral mediator — help you and your spouse talk through all the decisions that need to be made in your divorce. Together, we find solutions that work for your family without having to go to court.
No judges, no endless filings, no unnecessary drama. Just two people (and sometimes coffee) sitting down to create a plan for the next chapter.
It’s private, it’s respectful, and — and the reality is — it’s usually a lot more affordable and less stressful than litigation.
So, How Does It Work? Step by Step
Step 1: We Meet (or Click)
We’ll start with a free consultation to talk about where you are, answer your questions, and explain how mediation can help. I am happy to do separate free consultations (one for each of you) if that is more comfortable for you. If you both agree to move forward, we’ll schedule our first session — either in my warm, welcoming Boise office or virtually if you’re elsewhere (yes, I work with clients nationwide).
Step 2: You Share the Details
Before our first full session, I’ll have you each complete an intake form and share the financial and family information I need to guide you. Don’t worry — I’ll walk you through what’s needed.
Step 3: We Work Through the Big Decisions
In our sessions, we’ll talk through:
Parenting plans that actually work and grow with your kids
Division of property and debts
Child and/or spousal support
Holiday schedules, communication plans, even pet custody if needed
We’ll tackle one piece at a time and keep moving forward — calmly, respectfully, and at a pace that works for you both.
Step 4: You Leave With a Clear Agreement
Once all the decisions are made, I’ll draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that reflects everything you’ve agreed on. You can then file this with the court yourself, or I can refer you to a trusted attorney in your area who can handle the filing. Either way, once the court approves it, your divorce is just as legal and binding as if you’d gone to court — but with much less stress along the way.
Why Choose Mediation?
Mediation gives you:
More control over the outcome
A process that keeps your kids and your sanity front and center
A faster, more affordable alternative to litigation
A chance to focus on the future instead of rehashing the past
Because you deserve more than just a split — you deserve a thoughtful plan for your family’s future.
