No, You Don't Have to Live in Idaho to Work With Me - Virtual Divorce Mediation Works Wherever You Are

One of the first things people notice when they land on my website is that I’m based in Idaho. And then comes the question (sometimes sheepish, sometimes a little panicked):

"Uh… we don’t live in Idaho. Can you still help us?"

Let me clear this up right now: YES, you can live anywhere in the United States — and I can still help you mediate your divorce from start to finish.

Why? Because in this modern, tech-friendly world, divorce mediation doesn’t require us to be in the same room — or even the same time zone.

How Virtual Divorce Mediation Works

Through secure, private video sessions, I guide you and your spouse, or partner, through every step of the divorce process. You’ll still get all the benefits of working with a skilled, compassionate mediator (that’s me!) — we just do it all online.

We cover everything that needs to be decided:

  • Division of property and debts

  • Parenting plan and custody arrangements

  • Child and spousal support

  • Holiday schedules and future decision-making

  • Special family needs (and even pet custody, yes, that comes up more than you’d think)

  • Insurance and Tax Implications

I walk you through every decision you’ll need to make — calmly, respectfully, and at a pace that works for you both. My job is to help you craft agreements that work now and grow with your family into the future.

When we’re done, I’ll draft a clear, detailed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) — a written record of all your agreements.

What Happens After Mediation?

Here’s another question I get a lot:

"But if you’re not in my state, how do we actually file everything with the court?"

I’m glad you asked — and the answer is simpler than you think.

Once you have your MOU, you have two options: I can connect you with a mediator-friendly attorney in your area who can file your paperwork with the court for a flat nominal fee. Or, if you’d rather DIY, I can give you step-by-step instructions to file it yourself.

Either way, once the paperwork is filed and approved by the court, your divorce is just as legal and binding as if you’d gone through litigation. Same outcome, fewer headaches.

And just to clear up another common misconception: Even if your mediator is an attorney, they’re ethically prohibited from filing your paperwork for you. Once someone is serving as your neutral mediator, they can’t also act as your lawyer.

So yes — your divorce is legitimate, final, and enforceable once you file. No courtroom battle required.

Why People Love Virtual Mediation

I’ll let you in on a little secret: plenty of people actually prefer virtual mediation over in-person sessions. Why? No need to take off work or travel — you can join from home, in your comfiest chair. Easier scheduling, including evenings. Calmer atmosphere — no conference rooms, no awkward waiting rooms, no judge’s bench. Just as thorough, professional, and private as sitting across from me here in Idaho.

In short, virtual mediation is everything you’d want from the process — minus the drive and the stress.

So… Why Idaho?

I happen to live and work in Idaho, and I love it here — but my services were designed for families everywhere. While every state has its own laws and filing procedures, the core decisions — custody, parenting plans, property, and how you move forward as a family — are the same. And the need for calm, clear, respectful solutions exists no matter where you live.

So don’t let my zip code scare you off — you don’t need a Boise address to work with me. You just need an internet connection and a willingness to work together toward a resolution.

Of course, my physical office here in downtown Boise is pretty incredible — warm, welcoming, and comfy enough to make even a tough conversation feel a little easier. But rest assured, we can achieve the same thoughtful, effective result virtually, no matter where you are.
