Why the prices are on the page?

When I was going through my own divorce, I was about to become a single mom with two little kids, and I was terrified. I thought the only way through it was to hire an attorney, so I started calling around — and every one of them gave me an hourly rate. I'd ask what that actually ended up to, and no one could tell me. They didn't know. Facing the most stressful moment of my life without any idea what it would cost was the scariest part. That's why I charge a flat fee and publish it right here on this page.

I am Beth Carrier, a Certified Professional Mediator credentialed through the Idaho Mediation Association, a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, and I sit on the Idaho Supreme Court child custody roster.

You Don't Have to Turn Your Divorce Into a War

Mediation gives you a number you can plan around, and litigation does not.

What a flat fee means here

  • You agree the number before the first working session, and it is the number you pay

  • Emails, scheduling and short questions between sessions are included

  • A session that runs long does not cost you more

  • 2 people, 1 bill, usually split down the middle

What hourly billing usually means

  • 2 attorneys, 2 retainers, 2 sets of hourly rates

  • Every call, letter and email is billable on both sides

  • In adversarial situations, the opposing party can drag their feet and raise your bill

Neither of you can predict the final figure when you sign

  • The longer the disagreement runs, the more both of you pay

What the fee covers, and what it does not

Included in every package: all mediation sessions in your package, preparation and document review between sessions, the drafting of your Memorandum of Understanding, and my time answering your questions along the way.

Paid separately, and never to me:

  • Court filing fees, which go to the court, not to this office ⚠️

  • (Optional) An attorney's review of your Memorandum of Understanding before filing

  • Appraisers, business valuators, accountants or financial planners, when your situation calls for one

  • Additional sessions beyond your package, which are agreed with you in advance, never billed after the fact

I do not give legal advice. If you need legal advice during mediation, I may suggest that you consult with an attorney, get the guidance you need, and then come back to the mediation so we can continue working together.
